Samples are amplified 16S rRNA gene products (V1-V3) from a dilution series of cultured Salmonella bongori. These samples ought to represent only one taxon, S. bongori, but in fact contain sequences from a variety of other taxa. All non-Salmonella reads are presumed to reflect reagent or laboratory contamination with exogenous DNA.
