Characterization of microbiome and resistome from poultry farm and abattoir

Comprehensive characterization of microbiome genomes is necessary for understanding antibiotic resistance in the livestock microbiome as well as their related environment. In the poultry production environment, antimicrobial administration is widespread and that can cause accumulating AMR. We conducted large-scale sampling across 10 poultry farms and 4 connected abattoirs spanning 3 different geographic regions in China, to investigate microbiomes and resistomes in different microbial communities: chicken, farm environment, carcasses, and abattoir environment, with a longitudinal surveillance study from farm to abattoir through the whole production cycle.
