[C4OC] On-ground Action for Maintaining Ecosystem Services in the SA Arid Lands

This sub-project will focus on implementing on-ground action to maintain and improve habitat for ecosystem services and conservation of species of national significance. Building on existing successful methodologies to harness the community and implement strategic, coordinated threat abatement programs is foundational to this sub project. These will include programs to reduce fox predation and competition from feral herbivores (feral goats and rabbits). Response monitoring will assist in determining optimum control levels to support adaptive management. On-ground action will target areas of high priority for conservation and contribute to implementation of national strategies and plans. Indigenous participation will be facilitated throughout, incorporating traditional and contemporary Indigenous knowledge into planning, and maximising indigenous involvement in on-ground delivery.

本子项目将聚焦于开展实地行动，以维持并改善生态系统服务相关栖息地，同时对具有国家重要性的物种实施保护工作。依托现有成熟方法体系，动员社区力量并推行具有战略性、协调性的威胁消减项目，是本子项目的核心基础。此类项目涵盖针对狐狸捕食行为，以及野生植食动物（野生山羊与野兔）带来的生存竞争的消减工作。响应监测将辅助确定最优防控强度，以支撑适应性管理的开展。实地行动将瞄准高保护优先级区域，助力国家保护战略与规划的落地实施。本项目将全程促进原住民参与，将传统与现代原住民知识融入规划环节，并最大限度提升原住民在实地执行中的参与度。
