Master Dataset, ENSO Paper

This is the master dataset for the paper by Fisman, Tuite and Brown on ENSO effects on risk of inpatient infectious diseases in the United States.  The dataset has been uploaded in Stata, R, Excel, CSV delimited, and Epi Info formats.
Outcomes are weighted estimates of zoonotic disease, fungal disease, pneumonia and influenza, vectorborne disease (subcategories tickborne and rickettsial disease, and arthropod borne viral disease) and enteric disease.  Weighted admission counts are present for use as as model offsets.
Exposure measures are various ENSO indices, with the Multivariate El Nino Index (MEI) used in the base case.  Other variables are US census region (indicator and categorical), year and month, and variables derived from year and month (e.g., year-squared, sine and cosine functions of year (fast Fourier transforms)).
