This volume of examination results is arranged chronologically. Classes one to six are registered, with results entered for Half-Yearly Examinations. Student marks are recorded for the following subjects; reading, composition, spelling, writing, arithmetic, and other subjects (which in this case include nature knowledge and civics and morals).Columns are provided to calculate total marks and place in grade, whilst space is provided for remarks on individual pupils and to illustrate the types of questions set in the exams.The inside cover of the volume also has a list of guidelines for teachers to follow when they are administering examinations. The list includes the following stipulations; all classes must have half-yearly examinations and these exams must be finished by June and November respectively; if possible, the nature of the test and the questions should be recorded; the names of pupils should be arranged alphabetically; those pupils absent from an examination should be tested as soon as possible; the record should be signed by both the examiner and the class teacher.This list of directives also stresses the importance of the pupil’s written work above all else. Significantly, the record of results is described as being of great importance to both the teacher and the inspector.
