This paper proposes a conceptual physical hypothesis according to which time is an emergent phenomenon arising from the collective behavior of sub-Planckian quantum objects called slepnits. The hypothesis is formalized through a complex scalar field Lagrangian and verified against 34 experimental and theoretical tests. 22 tests are closed rigorously or quantitatively. No fatal contradictions were found. The model provides a unified mechanism for seven open problems in physics, including the black hole information paradox, the nature of dark energy, the cosmological constant, and the baryon asymmetry of the Universe.
