Number of private cars

The vehicle fleet includes all motor vehicles registered in Belgium on 1 August of the year. Types of vehicles: passenger cars, buses and coaches, lorries, road tractors, agricultural tractors, special vehicles, motorcycles. Fuel type: gasoline, diesel, gas, electricity. Tractors are commercial motor vehicles to which semi-trailers (vehicle without front axle) are coupled. Special vehicles are slow vehicles whose dimensions or weight exceed the maximum values normally permitted for the carriage of goods. The maximum authorised mass in Belgium must not exceed 44 tonnes. Vehicles in this category can therefore only be driven on public roads under very strict conditions.
