They were kept in pens on the roof of the roundhouse, although a number of chicken bones recovered from the wreck were found towards the bow area. These however could be discarded debris from meals already eaten. Certainly the noise on board the "walking larder" of the deck would have been heard by the passengers in their cabins below.
