To improve the fiber quality in cotton several EST projects are in progress. Cotton Functional Genomics project has been initiated at the University of California, Davis. The project is funded by NSF Plant Genome Project (DBI9876230). Clemson University Genomics Institute have sequenced large number of ESTs from cotton as part of the cotton genome project. As part of Comparative Evolutionary Genomics project, Iowa State University, University of Arizona, and University of Georgia in an collaborative effort are involved in generating ESTs from various cotton species.
