A new Tunisian Bacillus thuringiensis strain, shows an important larvicidal activity against mosquitoes larvae. It could be very useful and an effective alternative for mosquitoes control, implying its possible exploitation in pest management programs. The genome sequence of BLB406 strain was obtained using miSeq Illumina next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology. BLB406 was a novel B. thuringiensis strain harbouring 5 cry genes (cry11, cry22, cry42, cry60 and cry64) different from the published ones and one vegetative insecticidal protein gene (vip4). The isolation of new B. thuringiensis strains having a novel combination of toxins may resolve some problems such as the narrow insecticidal spectra and insect resistance.
