Epidemiological surveillance of brucellosis in Vindhya region of Madhya Pradesh, India. Brucella melitensis strain:SAVS-28

The project titled Epidemiological investigation of Brucellosis in Human and animal population of Vindhya region of Madhya Pradesh is sanctioned by Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology, Bhopal M.P., India. The objectives of the project are the epidemiological investigation of Brucellosis in animal and human population of Vindhya region of Madhya Pradesh with conventional and rapid molecular tools, to promote awareness regarding animal health management and economic animal husbandry practices and epidemiological mapping of Brucellosis in this geographical region. The zoonotic potential of brucellosis in human is very severe even though it does not cause death of patient. The symptoms like high fever, arthritis, spondylitis, orchitis, endocarditis, etc. are the major cause of concern about brucellosis. The lack of awareness of handling the aborted fetal tissue, cases of dystocia and retained product of conception and consumption of raw milk and improperly cooked meat are the source of infection. The epidemiological mapping of brucellosis positive livestock could help to target the population for its prevention and control in human and animal population. The sequencing of the isolates obtained will help in phylogenetic mapping with the worldwide isolates.
