A database about basic information and reproductive characteristic of freshwater fish species in China

Fish species in freshwater habitats play an important role in maintaining the health of freshwater ecosystems and providing nutrition for human society, but are especially vulnerable to the impacts of human activities represented by dam constructions. Although the extensive research on the taxon and occurrence of freshwater fish species in China has been well conducted, freshwater fish conservation still eagerly require datasets related to reproductive habits. In this paper, based on a list of 1,384 freshwater fishes species in China, underlying spawning behavior data were extracted from published papers（n=1,020）, monographs and reports（n=63）, data-sharing websites（n=7） and disposaled in a standardised way to form a national scale database. The focus of this database mainly including spawning seasons, spawning temperature, diameter and properties of fish eggs, incubation conditions and migratory habits. This database represents a highly valuable source of information for further studies on numerical simulation of freshwater ecosystem and conservation of freshwater fish diversity.

淡水生境中的鱼类物种在维持淡水生态系统健康、为人类社会提供营养供给方面发挥着重要作用，但却极易受到以大坝建设为代表的人类活动的负面影响。尽管国内针对淡水鱼类的分类学特征与分布现状已开展了较为充分的研究，但淡水鱼类保护领域仍迫切需要与其繁殖习性相关的数据集。本研究基于中国1384种淡水鱼类的名录，从已发表论文（n=1020）、专著与调查报告（n=63）以及数据共享平台（n=7）中提取相关产卵行为数据，并通过标准化流程进行整理，构建形成国家级规模的数据库。该数据库的核心收录内容主要包括产卵季节、产卵水温、鱼卵直径与性状、孵化条件以及洄游习性等信息。该数据库可为淡水生态系统数值模拟以及淡水鱼类多样性保护等后续研究提供极具价值的参考资料。
