Identification and counts of specimens were performed at the inverted microscope after sedimentation of variable volumes of seawater (1-100 ml), depending on cell concentration (Utermöhl, 1958), on two transepts representing ca. 1/30 of the whole bottom area of the sedimentation chamber at 400x magnification. Specimens were identified at the species level when possible, or at higher taxonomic levels. Taxonomic identification was performed according to the most relevant and updated taxonomic literature. For selected species, the identification was checked at the electron microscope.

标本的鉴定与计数参照Utermöhl(1958)的方法开展:根据细胞浓度取1~100 mL不同体积的海水进行沉降,随后在400倍放大倍率的倒置显微镜(inverted microscope)下,对沉降计数室底部总面积约1/30的两个计数区段进行计数。标本将尽可能鉴定至物种水平,若无法实现则鉴定至更高分类阶元。分类鉴定依据最新且最具相关性的分类学文献完成。针对部分选定的物种,通过电子显微镜(electron microscope)对其鉴定结果进行复核。
