Cross cultivation on homologous/heterologous plant-based culture media empowers host-specific and real time in vitro signature of plant microbiota

Here, we report on cross in vitro cultivation of maize microbiota on culture media based on plant broth of their compatible (homologous) maize plants compared to those of heterologous sunflower plants and R2A as a chemically-synthetic culture media. Illumina amplicon sequencing, and based on relative abundance, affirmed differential in vitro growth on the expense of homologous versus heterologous plant medium that is expressed in the enrichment / restriction of various bacterial taxa on multiple taxonomic levels.
