Training With Transects On Woodlot - YorkU

This data was collected on a relatively sunny day in the woodlot located on York University’s campus. The purpose was to examine 10 pair of trees by gathering data about these specific trees and then trying to identify them. It was collected with a lab partner who wrote the data while the instructor measured. A transect was used to gather this data and typically an approximation of the measurement was recorded. Furthermore, the scale was in feet and the participants (trees) are non mobile. The data was collected by going from a pair of trees to another pair. When approaching a pair of trees, first measure its diameter by bringing the transect to breast level and approximating the width of the tree. Then, decided on adult vs. young based on your height and rank the tree for its condition. Finally measure the distance between the two trees and follow the same procedure on the second tree.

本数据集采集于约克大学校园内林地中一个相对晴朗的日子。本次采集的核心目标为研究10组树木，通过收集这些特定树木的相关数据以完成物种识别。本次数据采集由本人与一名实验搭档协作完成：指导教师负责实地测量，搭档负责记录采集所得数据。采集过程采用样带法（transect），通常以近似值记录各项测量结果。此外，本次测量采用英制英尺作为计量单位，且观测对象（树木）为无移动性的固定实体。数据采集按组依次推进，从一组树木移动至下一组开展工作。当抵达一组树木时，首先将样带置于胸高位置，估算树干宽度以测量其胸径；随后，根据观测者身高结合树木外观判断其为成年树或幼树，并对树木的健康状况进行分级；最后测量该组两棵树之间的间距，并对组内第二棵树重复上述操作流程。
