Sovereign Dressed as Xiuhtecuhtli

In the coronation ceremoies of Mexica rulers it was customary to represent them with features of the god of fire, Xiuhtecuhtli, who also sponsored political power. The character represented in this sculpture wears the painted blue (now missing) diadem, nose and ear accessories that corresponds precisely to the turquoise ornaments of Xiuhtecuhtli, so it could serve as the image of one of the sovereigns the day he assumes power.在墨西加统治者的加冕典礼中，惯例会以火神修特库特利（Xiuhtecuhtli）的形象特征来塑造统治者形象，该神祇同时亦护佑世俗统治权力。这件雕塑所塑造的形象头戴原本绘有蓝色、现已佚失的王冠，搭配与修特库特利的绿松石饰件完全吻合的鼻饰与耳饰，因此该作品可作为某位君主即位当日的形象写照。
