A collection of 611 Pseudomonas isolated from 14 sampling sites along the Danube River were identified previously by MALDI-TOF MS with the VITEK MS system and were grouped in 53 clusters by their main protein profiles. The analysis of the sequences of the RNA polymerase sigma factor gene (rpoD) located 14 strains in the Pseudomonas fluorescens lineage of species within the P. protegens subgroup, close to the cluster composed of the species Pseudomonas protegens and Pseudomonas saponiphila. Based on similarities in the rpoD gene sequences of two previously isolated strains from other origin (rDWA11 and rDWA138) linked them to the same cluster. Phenotypic characterization, together with the chemotaxonomic data, whole-cell MALDI-TOF MS and fatty acids methyl esters analyses were performed. The multilocus sequences analysis (rRNA, rpoB, gyrB and rpoD gene), the phylogenomic analysis and whole genome nucleotide sequences of these isolates confirmed that the isolates JDS02PS006, JDS02PS016, JDS08PS001, JDS10PS002, JDS10PS014, JDS22PS011, JDS22PS018, JDS28PS081, JDS28PS083, JDS36PS016, JDS63PS049, JDS67PS009, rDWA11 and rDWA138. represent a novel species for which the name Pseudomonas danubii sp. nov. is proposed, with JDS02PS016T as the type strain.
