The first example of large-scale structure in an atmospheric sample may have been glimpsed in a previous experiment (RB2310464). We seek to conduct three experiments using selective deuteration to demonstrate, confirm and publish the previous tentative observation. Thick wood smoke films (~400Å) may be forming three-layer structured films at the air-water interface of atmospheric aerosol, which will affect the light scattering ability of wildfire impacted aerosol. Using samples extracted from well-characterised woodsmokes generated at Karlsruhe and spiking the samples with deuterated probe molecules we hope to demonstrate that complex samples from the atmosphere may be forming simple three-layer films at the air-water interface. This would be the first experimental confirmation of such a system with atmospheric samples.
