Conducting online studies: PsychTicipate & formR

In this demonstration, we focus on the topic of online data collection, which includes recruiting participants and creating online surveys. The first part introduces PsychTicipate (https://psychticipate.org), a platform for posting and participating in studies. In a broader sense, it is envisioned as a hub that connects researchers and the interested public. In the second part, we will present formr (www.formr.org), an open source software for conducting online studies and surveys. PsychTicipate is a community-driven project: researchers benefit from and contribute to the supra-regional and shared pool of participants; study participants and researchers interact at eye level by exchanging information. The goal is to make psychological science accessible. All posted studies are pre-registered and researchers are supported in communicating their study objective and/or providing live feedback to the participants, e.g. via formr. The online tool formr allows users with a minimal understanding of R to implement their own studies of varying complexity: for example, simple surveys to experience sampling studies, daily diary studies, or peer-rating studies. Integration with external platforms, such as Pavlovia or Sona is possible. Participants can be contacted and reminded to participate via e-mail or SMS, and participants can receive individualised feedback upon completion of the study. The second half of the demonstration will show basic and advanced features of formr as well as example studies.
