Addressing the twin challenges of the energy crisis and environmental pollution demands the development of efficient catalyst capable of driving hydrogen production through water splitting. Among the multitude approaches explored, two-dimensional (2D) materials have emerged as pioneers, owing to their extraordinary structural, electronic, and physiochemical properties. This study focuses on the synergistic role of Mo2S3-WS2 heterostructures, which act as efficient bifunctional catalysts for both electro and photochemical driven hydrogen production. The integration of Mo2S3 with WS2 capitalizes on their complementary properties, forming a robust system with superior charge transfer capabilities, enhanced active site density, and improved catalytic efficiency. By demonstrating the potential of Mo2S3-WS2 as a dual-function catalyst, this work not only advances the understanding of 2D material heterostructures in catalysis but also paves the way for developing scalable, environmentally friendly solutions for clean hydrogen production. Future perspectives include optimizing the interfacial engineering of such heterostructures and exploring their integration into practical water-splitting devices for large-scale applications.
