Photograph of a model of a sewn pine canoe made by Chumash Indians on the coast near Carpenteria, [s.d.]. A small canoe can be seen at center. It appears to be made of thin strips of wood held together by numerous stitches. A five-sided slab of wood with darkened edges is visible below the canoe. Photoprint reads: "Model of sewed pine [...] canoe of type made by Chumash Indians on coast near Carpinteria. In LA Co. Museum canoes of this type were without ribs. The planks were relatively small -- lower specim(?) actual plank from big dog cave on San Clemente is [...]avateu by A. Woodward for LA Co. Museum 1940 now in LA Co. Museum. Wood is pine -- it was part of prow. Canoes were caulked with [...]ar and sewed with either deer sinew or wild hemp fiber cordage. Canoes 10 feet long [...] ones 25 to 30 feet".
于1940年由A.
