Previous experimental evidence exists about atmospheric methane uptake in paddy soils. However, the importance of methanotrophic community composition to atmospheric methane oxidation and the biogeographic distribution of atmospheric methane oxidizers in paddy soils remain understudied. Here, we explore the community composition of active methanotrophs responsible for atmospheric methane oxidation in paddy soils across China, focusing on the relationship between community composition and high-affinity methane oxidation activity.
