Kelp degradation and sedimentation

We picked up rotting kelp from the beach at Scripps Coastal Reserve, drove it to Indiana University, blended it to a pulp, stored most in buckets in a cold room, and are using aliquots in flume experiments where we mix kelp slurry with clay to test for co-sedimentation characteristics and diagenetic changes through organic matter degradation.
