Testing for drug resistance in Dirofilaria immitis from shelter dogs in QLD, Australia

This study aimed to determine whether multiplex qPCR targeting Dirofilaria immitis and Wolbachia DNA can be a substitute for the quantitative Modified Knott's test. To do so, this study re-used gDNA samples obtained from the blood of shelter dogs in Queensland, Australia in Panetta et al. (2021). To evaluate potential drug-resistance, five (n=5) of these gDNA samples underwent Illumina amplicon next-generation sequencing targeting 7 SNPs previously associated with resistance in the United States.
