资源简介:
This project explores the concept of agricultural spread as analogous to enforced climate change and askshow cereals adapted to the new environments to which they were exposed when agriculture was introducedinto Europe during the period 7000–4000 BC. I will use state-of-the-art genetic and ecological approaches toaddress this question, and will push these approaches beyond their current boundaries by exploring newways of obtaining genetic data relevant to environmental adaptation from landraces and archaeological plantspecimens, and by analysing those data using concepts from ecological niche modelling that have notpreviously been applied to domesticated species. The results will be interpreted within a rigorousarchaeological context with the ambitious goal of assessing the impact that the environmental adaptation ofcrops had on the pattern and dynamics of agricultural spread, the adoption of agriculture as the primarysubsistence strategy, and the subsequent establishment of farming in different parts of Europe. As well asproviding a new dimension to our understanding of early European agriculture, the project will also informwork on the impact that future environmental change could have on the sustainability of modern cerealcultivation. This data was generated to look at Barley accessions.
