<p>This collection refers to biomass analysis carried out on smallholder Eucalyptus Robusta plantations in the highlands of Madagascar as part of the EU-DIABE project. The data was collected for the thesis of Ramanandraibe, Iaviantsoa (CIRAD doctoral student on the Diabe project). </p>
<p>The experimental protocol was designed to analyze the effect of age and fertilization on the above-ground biomass of E. robusta. Several plots of E. robusta of different ages (2, 4, 5, and 6 years, with planting years ranging from 2017 to 2021) underwent two fertilization treatments (F = fertilized, NF = unfertilized), resulting in eight different treatments.<p>
<p> This dataset contains in situ and UAV data as well as their related contextual information. In situ data correspond to trunk volume and fresh weight of leaves, branches and trunks, as well as moisture contents and an estimation of dry biomass values. The data also include forest inventory data (DBH, tree height) for the E. robusta plots (n = 22), which are used to estimate biomass. UAV data are raster and tree crown shapefile of 2 UAV flights covering the experimental plots</p>
<p> Descriptions of protocols and files contents (data and contextual information) are indicated in the README.txt file .</p>
<p><b>Datasets on destructive biomass and inventories:</b></p>
<p>These datasets concern 64 trees on which biomass was measured, and 22 plots on which inventories were conducted, including the 6 plots flown over by UAV.</p>

<li> [info_plot_data_20260305.csv] & [info_plot_metadata.csv]: This dataset contains the information on the E. robusta plot (n = 22) that have been inventoried, including the “PV” plots (n = 8) in which biomass has been estimated by destructive sampling </li>
<li> [destructive_biomass_data_20260305.csv] & [destructive_biomass_metadata.csv]: This dataset contains the destructive biomass of 64 trees: 8 trees per treatment were sampled (based on their diameter at breast height) in order to measure the trunk volume and fresh weight of each compartment: leaves (total and by zone in the crown: inferieur, intermediate, superior), branches, and trunk. The dataset contains sample data from each compartment to measure the moisture content based on the fresh and dry weight (after drying) of the sample. The database also contains dry biomass values calculated from fresh biomass and moisture content. </li>
<li> [inventory_data_20260305.csv] & [inventory_metadata.csv]: Foret inventory (circumference at breast height, tree height, crown diameter, ..) of the trees (n = 2598) in the E. robusta plots (n = 22) </li>

<p><b>UAV datasets:</b></p>
<p>Two drone flights (V1 and V3) were conducted over 6 of the 8 experimental plots. The flights enabled the determination of UAV variables (height, surface area, volume) for individual tree polygons obtained by segmentation of the Canopy Height Model (CHM). Of the 64 trees in destructive biomass datasets, 40 trees are present in the UAV data and were used to calibrate UAV biomass models.</p>

<p>This collection of dataset contain the data related to the following research article : "Allometry and UAV-based estimation of tree dimensions, volume and aboveground biomass of Eucalyptus robusta plantations in the central highlands of Madagascar". </p>
