Vegetation percent cover data from a long-term precipitation manipulation experiment was used to determine how higher precipitation variability (fewer, larger events) will impact plant community structure and species composition in annually burned, native tallgrass prairie. The study was conducted from 1997-2012 in the Rainfall Manipulation Plots (RaPMs) at Konza Prairie in northeastern Kansas, USA. The RaMPs infrastructure maintains total ambient growing season precipitation with half the plots (n = 6) receiving a rainfall regime that includes fewer but larger rain events and longer intervals between events during each growing season.
