The Candidate Emergence and Public Financing of Elections Dataset was created to test if Connecticut’s “Clean Elections” system of campaign finance affects the decision to run for office. This study uses a panel design of two survey waves of potential candidates for state legislature before and after the implementation of the Citizens’ Election Program. It includes a similar sample of local political elites from the commonwealth of Massachusetts as a control group.
