The mean annual leachate rate (SWR) describes the average amount of leachate in mm/a, estimated by a calculation method (TUB-BGR method), which leaves the soil taking into account the capillary rise downwards. The formed leachate contributes to groundwater regeneration and/or leaves the leachate zone as an intermediate runoff. The leachate rate is a crucial input for water balance calculations or hydrogeological groundwater modelling. It also significantly controls the relocation of harmful substances and nutrients (e.g. Nitrate) in the soil and indirectly influences the site suitability for flora and fauna.
