The organisms of the genus Haloferax are extreme halophilic, being able to grow at salt environments ranging from 10% to 37%, pH level between 4 to 12 and temperature from 0ºC to 60ºC. Due to its abilities, it is a potential model for astrobiology studies. In the present study, we described the first draft genome of Haloferax sp. isolated from dry soil of Caatinga Brazilian desert.
