Excessive inflammatory response can cause collateral tissue damage. Regnase-1 (zc4h12a) is an RNA binding protein that degrades pro-inflammatory transcripts. The role of Regnase-1 in bacterial immunity is poorly defined. Mice deficient in Regnase-1 are more resistant to Klebsiella pneumoniae and this correlates with enrichment of Type-I IFN-related genes in the lungs.
