Data content: Raw data for the paper illustrations of the newly described species *Elpphe xiphodonta*. This newly discovered species is a basal lineage of the genus *Elaphe* found in the Qinling Mountains, and together with Zoige Ratsnake (*Elaphe zoigeensis*) distributed in Zoige, Sichuan Province, it forms the most basal clade of the narrowly defined genus *Elaphe*. The illustrations include specimen photographs, skull CT scan images, detailed tooth images, head scale drawings, habitat photographs, collection maps, and phylogenetic relationship diagrams.
