Shigella sonnei Raw sequence reads

We detected an increased prevalence of a biochemically atypical variant of S. sonnei in China, which was negative for the phenotype of O-nitrophenyl-ß-D-galactopyranoside (ONPG) and displayed multidrug resistance (MDR) including resistance to extended-spectrum cephalosporins (ESCs). Here we report the recent prevalence and AMR profiles of S. sonnei in China, and use whole-genome sequencing (WGS) to investigate the population structure of Chinese isolates and the evolution and establishment of atypical ONPG-negative variants.
