Gutfreund's statue Anxiety expresses the metaphysics of modern man's anxiety at the threshold of the new century. The image of the anxiously cringing figure evokes conflicting actions that are, nonetheless, related in content. It is reminiscent of a figure tossed in the wind, the whirling of which pulls the figure into the surrounding infinite space, shaping it dynamically from all sides and adding sharp edges to the surfaces. The figure resists this vertigo by concentrating its energy on its solid core. It is reflected in the motif of terrified petrification and the growing of the sculpture's mass upwards, which evokes the mythical process of petrification when a figure turns to a stone. This object is part of Scan The World.
