State of Wildfires 2025-26: Forest Carbon Project Exposure to Fire

This dataset supports the State of Wildfires 2025-26 report under review at Earth System Science Data (Burton et al., 2026, under review). The dataset contains annual summaries and final-year anomaly metrics describing the exposure of forest carbon projects in the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) to wildland fires. Annual data are reported by continent, country, biome, and ecoregion for the 2025 calendar year (January–December). This differs from the reporting period used for most other analyses in the report, which are based on the 2025–2026 fire year (March 2025–February 2026).
