We employed genome-wide bisulfite sequencing (WGBS) to generate single-base resolution DNA methylation maps of the hindlimb muscles in hibernating and active Chinese alligators, aiming to elucidate the regulatory mechanisms of DNA methylation in hibernation adaptation of Chinese alligators. The WGBS technique is widely regarded as one of the most effective methods for detecting DNA methylation. The findings from this study will provide a fundamental foundation for gaining further insights into the adaptive regulatory mechanisms of hindlimb muscles in Chinese alligators during hibernation.
