In the left foreground, a broad, squat palm tree is pictured growing from a depression in the adobe walkway of the courtyard, behind which a swath of picket fence can be seen. Farther right and down a small step, a one-story edifice with an overhang and porch appears to be the monks' quarters. Farther in the foreground to the left, translucent shadows suggest a small body of water. The bell towers of the rest of the facility can be seen above the tops of the trees in the background distance.
