VIIRS/NPP Sea Ice Cover 6-Min L2 Swath 375 m, Version 1

This data set reports the location of sea ice cover derived from radiance data acquired by the Visible Infrared Imager Radiometer Suite (VIIRS). Following the approach used by MODIS, Sea Ice is detected using the Normalized Difference Snow Index. The VIIRS instrument flies onboard the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (NPP) satellite.

As of April 2025, this data set is retired and no longer available for download. Data from the \"Golden Month,\" a 40-day window from 29 August, 2018 to 7 October, 2018 are available by special request from NSIDC User Services.

本数据集报告了由可见光红外成像辐射仪套件（Visible Infrared Imager Radiometer Suite，VIIRS）获取的辐射数据反演得到的海冰覆盖位置。本数据集沿用中分辨率成像光谱仪（Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer，MODIS）所采用的方法，通过归一化积雪指数（Normalized Difference Snow Index）开展海冰检测。该VIIRS仪器搭载于苏米国家极轨伙伴卫星（Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership，NPP）之上。
截至2025年4月，本数据集已退役，不再提供下载服务。2018年8月29日至2018年10月7日这一为期40天的“黄金时段”（Golden Month）数据，可通过美国国家冰雪数据中心（National Snow and Ice Data Center，NSIDC）用户服务部提交特殊申请获取。
