South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands (SGSSI) is situated in the southern Atlantic Ocean, southeast by east of the Falkland Islands, and is a British Overseas Territory. Its geographic coordinates range from 53°32′47″S to 59°27′44″S in latitude, and 42°1′17″W to 26°16′8″W in longitude. The territory comprises two primary island groups: the South Georgia Group and the South Sandwich Islands. The South Georgia Group includes 425 islands, while the South Sandwich Islands has 26 islands, bringing the total number of islands across the territory to 451. Among these, South Georgia Island within the South Georgia Group is the largest, with an area of 3,483.49 km² and a coastline length of 1,487.98 km. The second-largest island is Montagu Island of the South Sandwich Islands, covering an area of 100.51 km² with a coastline of 45.28 km. The total area of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands is 3,776.93 km², with an overall coastline length of 2,045.33 km.
