E. coli O157 is an infectious organism that can cause severe illness, and death, and occurs with different incidence rates across the world. This project investigates the transmission and evolution of E. coli O157 which is of interest to a wide scientific (and public) audience. Drivers of genetic variation in an infectious disease are instrumental in determining its ability to be a successful human pathogen. This project uses next generation sequencing, to look at genetic variation of E. coli O157 in its primary reservoirs and associated with clinical cases from a number of countries across the world.
