Movement Ecology of Flapper Skate (MEFS) Project Datasets Introduction This repository collates the core Movement Ecology of Flapper Skate (MEFS) project datasets. The MEFS project was established to examine the movements of flapper skate (Dipturus intermedius) in the Loch Sunart to the Sound of Jura Nature Conservation Marine Protected Area in Scotland (Thorburn et al., 2022). Datasets The repository includes the following processed datasets: * skateids - A dataset that defines the individuals that were tagged;* moorings - A dataset that defines the deployment and retrieval of passive acoustic telemetry receivers;* acoustics - A dataset comprising passive acoustic telemetry detections;* archival - A dataset comprising archival time series; Archival and acoustic datasets are linked to individual and/or receiver characteristics by keys. The two main keys are: * individual_id - a unique identifier for each individual;* receiver_id - a unique identifier for each unique receiver deployment; To access the data in the form of an R package, see https://github.com/edwardlavender/MEFS. Access to this repository can be granted by E. Lavender. Project-specific datasets The data form the basis for multiple research projects. For project-specific inputs, contact E. Lavender and/or J. Thorburn. Usage Data can be provided by NatureScot and the Marine Directorate pending scientific review and a completed material transfer agreement. Requests for the data should be submitted to James Thorburn (J.Thorburn2@napier.ac.uk). Data usage is subject to the conditions in the material transfer agreement. The data come with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY. Acknowledgements Data were collected by Marine Scotland Science (now Marine Directorate), via projects SP004 and SP02B0, and Scottish Natural Heritage (now NatureScot), via project 015960, and made available through the Movement Ecology of Flapper Skate (MEFS) project funded by the same institutions (led by J. Thorburn). The MEFS project was developed via a PhD Studentship at the University of St Andrews, jointly funded by NatureScot, via the Marine Alliance for Science and Technology for Scotland (MASTS), and the Centre for Research into Ecological and Environmental Modelling.
