Sediment chemical and physical properties (DP1.20194.001)

Sediment samples are collected from 2 stations at each site: at wadeable streams and non-wadeable (large river) sites are divided in half longitudinally and sediment is collected throughout each half (approx. 500 m reach per station). In lakes, there are also 2 stations, the first near the buoy (the deep center point in the basin, called ‘c0’ meaning ‘center’), and the second near the near-shore infrastructure (about 1-2 m deep, called ‘in’ meaning ‘in-shore’). Within each station, sediments are collected and homogenized from depositional zones at both stations 2 times per year during the spring and fall aquatic biological sampling bouts. Homogenized aggregate samples are subsampled and shipped to an external lab for analysis, or to the NEON Biorepository for archiving.

每个采样地点设置2个采样站位：对于可涉水溪流与非涉水（大型河流）类采样地点，沿纵向将其分为两个半段，在每个半段（对应每个采样站位约500米的河段）范围内采集沉积物。在湖泊类采样地点中，同样设置2个采样站位：第一个采样站位靠近浮标（湖盆的深水中心点，命名为"c0"，意为"中心"），第二个采样站位靠近近岸基础设施（水深约1-2米，命名为"in"，意为"近岸"）。在每个采样站位内，于每年春季和秋季的水生生物采样活动季，从沉积区采集沉积物并混匀，每年采样2次。混匀后的混合样品将被分装为子样品，或送往外部实验室开展分析，或送往NEON生物样本库（NEON Biorepository）进行存档。
