The gut microbial community is closely linked to the host's brain function. In this study, we created adult Drosophila melanogaster flies with a germ-free gut and utilized single-cell RNA sequencing to compare brain gene expression between axenic and conventional flies. Overall design: Axenic flies were produced by chlorinating the egg surface and maintaining the treated eggs on an axenic diet. Brains from both axenic and conventional flies were dissected, with 20 brains collected for each sample. The study included flies that were one-week-old and four-week-old. The difference in gene expression level was analzyed by single-cell RNA sequencing.
