The low productivity of CWPF is attributed to high groundwater table, poor drainage conditions, low soil temperature, poor soil physical characteristics, excessive reducing substances and low contents of available nutrients. Excess water in field could be rapidly removed after drainage which could improve the soil aeration condition and accelerate the oxidation of organic matter. Therefore, CWPF can increase their yield through proper drainage. Understanding the soil microbial community and its response to the drainage management is important for selecting suitable management practice to improve soil function and increase rice yield.
