Native flora and fauna of Italy Targeted loci

The National Biodiversity Future Center (NBFC) developed a molecular platform for species identification, creating a DNA barcode reference library of Italian flora and fauna. The project aims to collect and analyse over 4000 samples of Italian species including endemic, vulnerable, rare species for ecosystem functioning. The DNA barcode sequences will be generated from herbaria, museums, fresh samples and existing DNA barcoding data produced by Italian scientists.
