To collect this data, an Internet-wide IP address sweep was conducted. Every IP address in the ranges allocated by IANA was pinged once by sending ICMP ECHO_REQUEST (PING) packet. If the response (ICMP_ECHO_REPLY) came, its IP address was recorded in this data-set. In all, over 2.5 billion distinct IP addresses were probed during this experiment.本数据集的采集流程为开展一次全球互联网IP地址扫描：对互联网编号分配机构（Internet Assigned Numbers Authority, IANA）分配的全部地址段内的每一个IP地址，均发送一次ICMP回声请求（ICMP ECHO_REQUEST，即PING）数据包进行探测。若成功接收到对应的ICMP回声应答（ICMP_ECHO_REPLY），则将该IP地址记录至本数据集。本次实验中共探测了超过25亿个唯一IP地址。
