De novo assembly and characterization of buds transcriptome in garlic (Allium sativum) by Illumina sequencing

Garlic (Allium sativum) is one of the most widely used cultivated Allium. Garlic bulbs (Cultivar Cangshan 15) were harvested from fully mature plants grown in the field. After harvest, the bulbs were stored at room temperature. The dormant vegetative buds were excised from cloves stored for 2 weeks, whereas the sprouting vegetative buds were excised from cloves stored for 16 weeks. To analyze the transcriptome of Allium sativum, cDNAs derived from the total RNA of Allium sativum vegetative buds were analyzed by Illumina sequencing. Approximately 26.67 million 89-bp pair end (PE) clean reads were achieved in the two libraries.
