ESG and the Green Economy in Emerging Markets: A Systematic Review of Mechanisms, Dynamics, and Drivers for SDG Acceleration

This dataset supports the systematic review article "ESG and the Green Economy in Emerging Markets: A Systematic Review of Mechanisms, Dynamics, and Drivers for SDG Acceleration", which synthesises evidence from eleven (11) empirical studies examining how Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices and green economy initiatives influence Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) outcomes in emerging markets. The review covers multiple thematic pillars including ESG performance and disclosures, green finance, renewable energy, green innovation, green accounting, and corporate social responsibility (CSR), as well as various SDG indicators such as human development, life expectancy, emissions reduction, economic growth (GDP per capita), and financial performance (ROA, ROE, EPS). The geographic scope spans diverse emerging economy contexts including Indonesia, ASEAN countries, BRICS nations, China, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia, with study periods ranging from 1995 to 2023.
