Maned rat (Lophiomys imbausi), a nocturnal East African rodent that superficially resembles a porcupine. Has a mane of coarse banded hairs which it smears with poison to sicken or kill predators.Fat sand rat (Psammomys obesus), a diurnal North African rodent that lives in deserts. It easily become obese and acquire type 2 diabetes when they are fed a normal rodent diet.
