Temperature profiles from MBT casts from the CAMPBELL from Ocean Weather Station E (OWS-E) in the North Atlantic Ocean from 06 January 1962 to 15 January 1962 (NODC Accession 6200078)

Bathythermograph data were collected from the CAMPBELL within a 1-mile radius of Ocean Weather Station E (3500N 04800W) and in transit. Data were collected by the United States Coast Guard from 06 January 1962 to 15 January 1962. The platform was equipped and staffed to observe weather and sea conditions. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.html.

The UBT file format is used for temperature-depth profile data obtained using the mechanical bathythermograph (MBT) instrument. The maximum depth of MBT observations is approximately 285 m. Therefore, MBT data are useful only in studying the thermal structure of the upper layers of the ocean. Cruise information, date, position, and time are reported for each observation. The data record comprises pairs of temperature-depth values. Temperature data in this file are recorded at uniform 5 m depth intervals.

UBT文件格式用于存储通过机械式海水温度深度记录仪（mechanical bathythermograph, MBT）获取的温度-深度剖面数据。MBT观测的最大深度约为285米，因此其数据仅适用于研究海洋上层的热结构特征。每条观测记录均包含航次信息、观测日期、位置与时间，数据记录由多组温度-深度数值对构成，本文件中的温度数据以均匀5米的深度间隔进行记录。
